Athletics

Anacapa Middle School offers traditional team sports in an after-school setting for students.  In order to participate in AMS Athletics, students must complete a packet received from the appropriate coach(es), and meet all medical and permission requirements.  Some sports may have required try-outs as a result of limited availability.

Boys and Girls Cross Country

Practices start Monday 8/26 and we will be meeting from 3:15-4:30p on our grass field on Monday, Wednesday & Friday, until our Meets start in place of Friday practices. First “unofficial” Meet is scheduled for Friday September 13 at Rio Vista in Oxnard. It’s the “Predict-a-Time” run and it’s a $5 donation to run and proceeds go towards our Ventura County Middle School Cross Country League. The first “official” meet will be September 20th @ Arroyo Verde. More information will be given at our Parent Meeting after practice- TBD.

We are running XC practice through ASES this year, so please report to the Cafeteria first to sign in and get a snack. You can only attend ASES if you have completed the proper paperwork and receive clearance from Ms. Schreiner. Mrs. Walker will pick up students and walk them to the grass area behind the gym for practice. Please make sure your student has running shoes, socks, athletic attire, water and a sweatshirt for practices/meets.

Thank you to our coach this year, Dustin Duran. Please reach out to Mrs. Walker (PE 6/7/8) for any questions or email her at: karly.walker@venturausd.org for more information.

Wrestling

Hello VUSD Middle School Parent/Guardians,
Thank you for your interest in being part of the Middle School Wrestling Program. We are thrilled to launch this exciting opportunity and offer our students the chance to begin their VUSD wrestling journey.
This year, we are eager to introduce a collaborative program uniting all of our middle schools into one team, allowing us to compete with neighboring districts. Wrestling offers a unique experience, teaching valuable life skills such as teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership. We look forward to working with our students to develop these important skills.
We are pleased to announce that James Peters, our Middle School Head Coach, will be leading the team. Coach Peters currently serves as the girls’ wrestling coach at Ventura High School. He is also a youth wrestling coach with Beat the Streets in the City of Oxnard and a youth coach for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. We are excited to have him lead our wrestling program. Our mandatory parent meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at 5:30pm in the DATA Middle School Cafeteria. During this meeting, we will cover important details including the following:
● Wrestling Schedule (Practices and Matches)
● Transportation
● Uniforms/Gear
● Register My Athlete
● Physicals
We also want to inform parents that transportation to and from wrestling practice will not be provided. Parents/guardians will need to arrange transportation for their students to and from practice to DATA. We will be providing VUSD bus transportation to and from all competitions. More details will be shared in our parent meeting. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter.
We strongly encourage you to complete all necessary registration requirements in Register My Athlete at https://www.registermyathlete.com/ as soon as possible and ensure your physical is complete by the end of January, as practice will begin the second week of February. Students will not be able to practice or compete without a physical. Please know that physicals from chiropractors cannot be accepted.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our Athletic Coordinator at AMS, Karly Walker, at karly.walker@venturausd.org.
Thank you for your support, and we look forward to seeing you at the meeting!

Sincerely, Karly Walker (AMS Athletic Director)
